Heath Dotson: Coach/Triathlete/Cyclist

Heath lives in Asheville, NC.

Heath raced full time as a Category 1 cyclist for nearly 12 years and still hold a Category 1 license. After several seasons of racing for different elite teams, in 1999 he helped found the Cane Creek/Subaru Elite team based out of Asheville, NC. During his tenure as rider, director and manager, this team became one of the top elite teams in the Southeast and successfully campaigned internationally as well. Heath also raced for a season in Europe with Club Cercle Gambetta Orleans, a top amateur team based just outside of Paris.

After being forced out of top level cycling due to an injury, Heath has since gone on to be a competitive Age Group triathlete. Highlights include being named 7 time USAT All American, Kona Qualifying at IM Louisville and racing Kona in 2016. He raced ITU Long Course Worlds for Team USA in 2011, has multiple Masters Open wins at the Half Ironman distance, a 3rd place 40-44 at the inaugural Ironman Raleigh 70.3 and qualifying for the 70.3 world championship.

Heath still occasionally competes regionally as a cyclist. In 2012 and 2013 was a rider/manager for the Earth Fare Development Squad based out of Asheville, NC.

Heath was an early adopter of training with power beginning in 1995 with a Computrainer. He owned one of the first Powertaps, then known as eTune, and has been using and analyzing data with an SRM since 2001. Triathletes under Heath’s guidance have had multiple Overall wins, Age Group wins, podiums and qualified for the world championships. Cyclists have earned their Category 1 upgrades and brought home National Championship medals in Road, Cyclocross, and Mountain Bike events.

More recently in the quest for making athletes faster, Heath co-founded AeroCamp with fellow coach Brian Stover. Since the founding of AeroCamp Heath has put in 100’s of hours at both the velodrome and wind tunnel fine tuning athlete’s positions with great success. Heath has also been involved with several manufacturers testing and refining new products in the wind tunnel.
